Birthday 44 - MDSM106

So, my birthday was yesterday! As I am an identical twin... my sister, Debbie shares this special day with me.  I miss those special years of celebrating that day together.

And YES! The title is correct - I am 44! I am forever reminded of that Ickey Woods TV commercial -- where he's in the deli and they call number 44.... and he shouts "whoo number 44, that's me!"  <---Well, that's me! lol!

My husband brought me tulips and we tried a new bakery (Nothing Bundt Cakes). Wow! They were delicious.  We had the Carrot Cake and the White Chocolate Raspberry -- both had cream cheese frosting. YUM!

Happy Ladder Day

LOL! My brother needed a card for his boss, and he wanted to incorporate the ladder safety warning image on it.  I told him that I would be happy to come up with something for him.

As it turns out, March 24th is actually "Ladder Day".  Here's what I found in the 'Urban Dictionary' :

   

Ladder Day

Ladder Day is a non-denominational holiday that falls on the 24th day of March. It is celebrated in the United States, with origins traced back to the southern hamlets of Rockland County, New York. Celebrators of all religions and walks of life gather to share in the joy that is Ladder day, usually by consuming large volumes of champagne and orange juice. This holiday is the first of the spring season, and is an opportunity for patrons to lift their spirits in anticipation of warmer weather and the end of winter.

I created this in My Digital Studio, and printed it on Naturals White Cardstock.

Sweet Lotus

Wow! So happy to have received my new goodies from Stampin' Up! New stamp sets, paper and washi tape! LOL!

I have to say... I was a little apprehensive to try the new Lotus Blossom triple-step stamp set, as I wasn't sure about what colors to use! Ha! There are so many possibilities with this set.

I used Strawberry Slush and So Saffron on my flowers and Smoky Slate on the stems.  I first stamped the 1st stamp in Strawberry Slush, then stamped off (on a scrap piece of paper) then stamped image on card front. Then, I stamped the 2nd stamp in So Saffron and stamped it onto the card from lining up the two points on top. Finally, with the 3rd stamp... I stamped it in So Saffron, stamped off (on a scrap piece of paper) then stamped onto the card front. Whew! I lot of work, but the final product is amazing!  I did the same with the stem. With the 1st stamp in Smoky Slate and the 2nd with Smoky Slate too, but I stamped off on a scrap piece of paper.

This is the first time I used washi tape on my cards.  I believe it really dresses it up quite nicely... the washi tape is adhered to black cardstock, so it looks gray in the background instead of white -- pretty cool!

Painted Sadie

Working again with my new supplies... with more washi tape and a new stamp set.

I actually stamped the stem after placing the washi tape on.  I just masked off the stem that would have gone into the tape.

I decided to group my photos together to create one great photo.  My husband and I love this photo... we were certainly not expecting the big wave when this photo was taken.  It almost took out our camera too, but luckily the camera was on a high enough rock -- everything was ok! lol

Sammamish River

I believe this is the first time I didn't create a double-page spread that had coordinating pages! (This page will be next to my previous post.  I hope they won't look too different next to each other when printed.  I only had this one photo taken in July, and wanted to include it in our 2014 photobook.

I was inspired by a layout on the Sweet Shoppe blog, but I believe I changed it way too much to be considered actually using it.  I'll show it here anyway, and you can determine if I did or not. LOL!

Snoqualmie

I decided to continue working on our 2014 photobook with our trip to Snoqualmie Falls in July 2014. I did create a 12x12 calendar page (mirrored image of this layout), but wanted to include it within our photobook too.  I did change a few things... the stitching is not all around the photo in this one and I added the journaling to this page rather than leaving it blank (as in the calendar page).

Forever Love - MDSM104

 

I was a little bit intimidated by the sketch challenge found on the MDS Monday blog this week. Not sure why... maybe it was all those boxes with paper rather than photo boxes.  Well, getting out of my comfort zone it good - right!  YES! The more I worked with this sketch...the more I felt comfortable with it.  Thanks Jeanna!

What worked perfectly with this sketch were the Project Life cards... each box (excluding the photo) is a Project Life card! The digital download kit that I used for this is the 'Love Story Project Life' kit, and most all the stamps are from that kit too (excluding the background overlay stamp).

A few details I'd like to point out. I layered a punched heart on top of the black heart in the upper-left Project Life card.  With the bottom-middle Project Life card... I added a stamp heart (the card had the same heart, but in black), I used an 2 arrow stamps and cropped them to make them look like it was going through the heart, and I added the word stamps 'Love' and 'Always'.

The photo is a picture of Mike's parents.  Back in December 2014, his Mom got the whole Malcor family together to take family photos.  I absolutely love this photo of them.  I changed the photo to black & white to keep the colors on my page Red/Black/White combination.

Rainbow State - MDSM103

Playing along with the MDS Monday Blog Challenge (MDSM103), with Yapha's and Tami's great sketch.  I had these beautiful photos of Hawaiian rainbow's that I wanted to scrap, and their sketch really provided a great layout! Thanks Yapha and Tami!

At first I started out with a yellow/blue background, but that didn't draw out my photos at all. Then, a lightbulb went off... why not use Red, Orange, Yellow (and the photo provides the Green, Blue and sort of Purple. LOL!).  I finished off my page with Sunshine and Sprinkles embellishments, as well as Marina Mist ribbon and brads.

Fabulous Petals - CTS112

I am always looking at cards and sketches online to help get my creative juices flowing! It took me just a few minutes to decide which stamp set to use -- 'Fabulous Four' was perfect for this!

I used white embossing on the Early Espresso cardstock and just Early Espresso ink on the Whisper White cardstock.  After creating the sentiment, I thought it looked a little plain... so I added my leaves and ribbon to the lower left of my card.  I love how it turned out!
