Beautiful Cake

Wow! This card was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I saw the card Stampin' Up! created (right), and wanted to create a similar card for my niece. I first cut the individual cake layers and then stamped the border stamps on them. Hmmm.... it didn't look right.  Upon further inspection of the card here on the right, I see that the strip of icing dots is cut around the dots (icing). So, I created more cake layers and then cut around the icing. What a difference it makes. I've only created 2 cards with this particular stamp set... hopefully, this experience won't hinder making another card with this set! =)

Thanks for taking a closer look!

Berry Icing

My Mom used to decorate cakes when I was a child. My siblings and I fought over the leftover "roses" made of icing, as my Mom made several extra just in case they didn't turn out good/got ruined. YUM....sugar overload! Such wonderful memories of my Mom! This Stampin' Up! set -- 'Icing on the Cake' reminded me of her and all the wonderful, tasty cakes she used to make.

I got inspiration for my creation from the Stampin' Up! Catalog showcasing this stamp set.
The stamp set is what's called a 'Two-Step' stamp set, which means there are two stamps for every flower and leaf. I used Berry Burst and Powder Pink on the center and outer flowers. The other two was created just by using Powder Pink.... but the background is stamped off on a scrap piece of paper before stamping on the flower (creates a softer color than the original).

Thanks for taking a peek!

Balloon Icing

This stamp set  (Icing on the Cake) reminds me of my experiences with cake decorating. As with real cake decorating, stamping with this set does take a bit of patience to get the stamps straight! LOL! So, if it's a teeny off center... it's true to life cake decorating! Such fun!

With each balloon, I stamped first in the lighter color - Flirty Flamingo, Lemon Lime Twist and Peekaboo Peach. Then, stamped the darker color over top each balloon - Real Red, Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie respectively. Oh... I did mask the green balloon with a scrap piece of paper before stamping the red and orange ones.

Thanks for taking a closer look!
